A Lady's Guide To Scandal by Sophie Irwin
Book Synopsis
When shy Miss Eliza Balfour married the austere Earl of Somerset, twenty years her senior, it was the match of the season--no matter that he was not the husband Eliza would have chosen.
But ten years later, Eliza is widowed. And at eight and twenty years, she is suddenly left titled, rich, and, for the first time in her life, utterly in control of her own future. Instead of living out her mourning quietly, Eliza heads to Bath with her cousin Margaret. After years of living according to everyone else’s rules, Eliza has resolved, at last, to do as she wants.
But when the ripples of the dowager Lady Somerset’s behavior reach the new Lord Somerset—whom Eliza knew, once, as a younger woman—Eliza is forced to confront the fact that freedom does not come without consequences, though it also brings unexpected opportunities . . .
My Review
This is the second book in the Lady's Guide series written by Sophie Irwin. I listened to book one in the series as an Libby Audiobook from the library and I enjoyed that book so I decided to continue the series with the second book, A Lady's Guide to Scandal, also as an Libby Audiobook from the library.
I didn't enjoy this book as much as the first. The tone of the book was much different from the first in that there was a love triangle and there was quite a bit of back and forth between the characters. I didn't really feel like I had as much invested in the characters in this book, or even liked any of the characters, like I did in the first book. I didn't feel there was the same chemistry between the characters that were romantically attached as there was in book one. The romance seemed more about marriage of convenience and one of titles than of a genuine romantic one.
Not as good as the first book. I didn't find myself caring whether or not the characters had their HEA in this book.
I listened to this audiobook at 2.15 x listening speed in a total of 13 hours and 27 minutes.
My Rating: 3/5
