Book Review

The Power by Naomi Alderman.

Synopsis

In THE POWER, the world is a recognizable place: there's a rich Nigerian boy who lounges around the family pool; a foster kid whose religious parents hide their true nature; an ambitious American politician; a tough London girl from a tricky family. But then a vital new force takes root and flourishes, causing their lives to converge with devastating effect. Teenage girls now have immense physical power--they can cause agonizing pain and even death. And, with this small twist of nature, the world drastically resets.

My Review

This book has been on my want to read for quite some time and I figured now was a good time to read it before watching the tv series adaptation on Prime Video.

The book had a bit of an interesting, yet somewhat slow start and it took me a bit to get into the flow and getting familiar with the characters. Things got better as I got more into the book, then in the second half, I just found myself getting a bit bored and I found the story was getting a bit jumbled and lost.

I feel like having watched the first 3 episodes of the series by the time I was at about the halfway point was a good idea because it gave me a better understanding of the characters in the novel. I think this is definitely a case in which I think I can say I will enjoy the adaptation more than the book.

My Rating: 3/5
