Book Review: Wednesdays At One

Wednesdays At One by Sandra A. Miller.

Thank you to Zibby Books for sending me the ARC of this book to read and review in exchange for my honest opinion.

Book Synopsis

Sophisticated and suspenseful, this debut novel by award-winning author Sandra A. Miller explores how long-buried secrets have the power to shatter a seemingly perfect life.

Dr. Gregory Weber has a thriving career, a beautiful family, and an elegant home in one of Boston's most desirable suburbs. But he is haunted by a secret—a fatal mistake he made at seventeen. No one else knows about it, or so he believes, until Mira, an unscheduled patient, begins appearing in his office each Wednesday at 1 p.m.

When Mira displays uncanny insight into Gregory’s guilt and pain, his professional boundaries blur. Soon Gregory becomes desperate to uncover his connection to Mira and keep his shameful past from infecting his life.

In searching for answers, Gregory risks losing everything that matters: his family, his marriage, and his mind.

My Review

Wednesdays At One starts out reading like a thriller, suspense genre novel and had me turning the pages to find out what the twist was going to be.

There are topics of forgiveness (forgiving others and yourself), family bonds, relationships between fathers and daughters, wives and husbands, and brothers and sisters, as well as fathers and sons. There is a touch of mystery in this book.

The last 1/4 of the book turns into more of a supernatural ending, which was just okay for me. I understand why the author wrote the book this way, supernatural twists just aren't really for me. You kind of have to suspend disbelief a bit to really take in the ending of this book. Overall, an enjoyable read with well developed characters, and I liked the writing style.

My Rating: 4/5
